Yes, your mail is quite broken.  It didn't at all explain what you
thought was a bug, and what exactly is happening to your mail file.
You need to provide a copy of the mail file before and after the
corruption you suspect.

Also, were you continue to send test messages to your mailbox while you
were reading it?
