   Mine notices it only when it's on a dialin port.  I've never had ppp detect
   hangups on a dialout port.

my pppd started noticing hangups (by getting SIGHUP's) when i added
`modem' to the options file.  i already had crtscts in it.  this is
netbsd/sparc.
