I tried this, but I still get the same failure: 'ping -s 500 <addr>'
over my PPP link never receives any responses. I did get some
responses with 400 byte data, so some improvement is seen.
BTW, while cleaning up I found a kernel I made last September 19. It
does not exhibit the problem. Hopefully this will help bound the
search space.
