My 40/52/80/170 MB Quantums work just fine, but the 1080 MB Empires keep
dying. I'll replace the second Empire tonight.. I have read in the news
groups that this 1080 MB Empire has this problem of dying at the age of
12 months. The disk no longer spindles up (it also seems to die when up
and running - once the drive disappeared from the SCSI bus and only a
power cycle brought it back). My other 1-gig drives (Seagate, uh) have
been working well.
