I like this idea...because it makes it really easy for me to get rid of
libedit globally by making one small change.  (Why do I want to do
this?  Primarily because I find it really obnoxious to type ^P to
suspend something - my suspend character is ^P - and get the previous
command line instead.  There's already too much software that "knows"
(incorrectly) that my stty special characters are the same as everybody
else's, please don't make it even worse by putting such botches into
"system" software.  gdb is bad enough.)

Alternatively, does libedit support some simple way for me to disable
it globally for everything I run?  I can't find a manpage for it,
though admittedly I'm looking under slightly-pre-1.2 rather than
-current.  I really don't want to have to go into the libedit source
and lobotomize it just to get a system I can use....
