I believe this is commonly referred to as "digging your own grave."
If you can't keep your config files neat, and you lose as a
consequence, you have nobody but yourself to blame.   As Perry has
pointed out, mechanical updates should probably operate on
per-interface files in order to avoid exactly this sort of situation.
