As far as I understand this, NetBSD ELF kernels don't have the note section
we stick in the userland binaries (to get emulation right) simply because 
our kernel makefiles don't create them.

IMHO the request to give a bootloader (not *our* bootloader) some mechanism
to tell a NetBSD kernel from a FreeBSD one is not that unreasonable and the
solution seems cheap.

So besides the off-topic discussion whether we like, want, need or are going
to actively support GRUB, why don't we just change the kernel build process
and add the notes section?
