Hmm, we deployed such a solution earlier this year

... and this is what we did. This way it was cheaper than the two base
stations (and we had - and needed for other stuff - the i386 box on one
side already, which made it even cheaper).

Interstingly about half of the orinoco resellers we queried for offers 
jumped in and proclaimed "this can not work without base stations on both
sides".
