Cool. Works now, thanks for all who helped!

 It is, that the previous mails about this topic left me on the wrong trail
because it is not mysql.o but mysql.so which is of course required. And
the php.ini file is found in /usr/pkg/etc/ of course :-)

 Also pkgsrc tells me, after installing php-mysql, that I should use
"LoadModule" in the http.conf to integrate mysql. It does not mention 
anything about php.ini.
