sorry to follow up again, but:

<Kick-self> Oh. of course this laptop has a Ricoh pci-cardbus bridge
(pccb0). So it's all the obscene delay() calls in sys/dev/pci/pccbb.c.

There's one there that delays for 200 ms, fercryinoutloud.
