Ah-hah!  Very good guess, I think this is an old build with Kerberos.

FWIW, this is all happening on VirtualPC.  If anyone wants to play with
NetBSD/VPC, drop me a line.  I'm a little inaccessible right now, so I can't
burn people CD's this week, but I'd be happy to send patches and instructions,
and I'm hoping to have an article about this written for BSD Today by the end
of the week.
