Here is a question that might not have occurred to any of you yet: Can NetBSD
be installed on an Intel based VME bus board? What I would do is copy over the
portions of the vme68k kernel that correspond to VME services to a function
specific kernel, after successfully booting NetBSD on the hypothetical VME bus
board. I activated this idea, because a group of people here, and overseas,
have successfully ported Linux over to the Intel based boards. I figured that
since the entire kernel for NetBSD is written in C, porting one from the other
would be some what easy. About the only problems that have yet to be solved are
selecting the board, and selecting the frame for the board. If need be, if I
ended glomming a board that is not available in 68k form, yet only exists in
Intel form I would borrow code from that specific design, since more then
likely somebody at the Linux world did it already. If need be I could
conceivably translate the code written for the Linux kernel that I am more
familiar with, which does have a Linux correspondent, and build it there. That
is on NetBSD. It is only a question of managing the VME board specific
functions.
