When doing a "ls", yeah, it's unwieldy.  But when referencing them (which
is far more common), it's less painful to do so.

Why, Greg, the very notion!  The next thing you'll be telling us is that
we should use /dev/{,r}dsk/cCtTdDnN notation :-).
