Does anyone have any advise to offer on this one?  It's standing in
the way of an upgrade in response to the security advisories of a
couple of weeks ago (though on a machine that's effectively
firewalled).  

Is there anything I can do to work around it?

The extra file is "./usr/lib/libgcc_s.a".
