Subject: XFree864.4 not starting

(apologies if you see this twice.)
I build and installed an up-to-date -current, including XFree86 4.4.
The X server isn't starting. It complains about lots of undefined
symbols -- but there's also a message in the log saying that that may
not be the cause of the problem. Suggestions eagerly solicited... (If
it matters, I used build.sh to install the new X over the old directory
tree.)
This is a repost; the original has not appeared, possibly because the
attached files made it look like spam. I've put the relevant
