Reading through the mailing list archives
(http://mail-index.netbsd.org/tech-net/2003/06/27/0013.html) it looks
like there was some talk of an ALTQ API that could make ipf and pf
(and whatever comes next) have the same tagging capabilities.  This
question was posed to tech kern here

get a reply.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this topic.  Ipf has a
strong reputation and great portability, but what is stopping it from
utilizing this other component of netbsd?

Basically, what happened to stop this progress?

Why must one choose pf over ipf if one wishes to have a current ALTQ?

If ALTQ is the problem (not written in such a way to allow segregation
from a packet filter), why is it considered a valid solution?
