This sounds really familiar...

But my answer is no.  I've been doing native builds on sparc64 without
issue (other than the amount of time it takes for the build to complete).

    build.sh command: ./build.sh -j 3 -M /usr/obj -x distribution sets
    build.sh started: Sun Nov 23 10:46:48 PST 2008
    NetBSD version:   5.0_BETA
    [...]
    build.sh ended:   Sun Nov 23 21:58:22 PST 2008
