800+ test failures on i386

All,

Yesterday, the automated tests on babylon5 ran to completion for the
first time in more than a week.

The previous completed i386 test run, with 2012.02.27.01.39.58
sources, had two failures (not counting "expected" ones).  The latest
one, with 2012.03.04.18.15.35 sources, has 837.

The sparc tests seem to be unaffected by this breakage; amd64 tests
are still running.
