Did you build on amd64, or something else?  I'm seeing this on amd64:

ld: ppr.o: relocation R_X86_64_PC32 against symbol `pprpar_' can not be
used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC

gmake[5]: *** [stats.so] Error 1
