I don't know OpenBSD's background. In the meantime I have asked on IRC
and received confirmation that it did cause problems in ECL on NetBSD.

This issue with threaded Boehm-GC was discussed many times and each time
we came to conclusion that we cannot simply switch the default.
What is your reason to do it?
