I redid all the package's patches, and wanted each patch file commit to
have a meaningful message (as opposed to a two-page summary), and be
connected to the previous patch-a? filename (wiz asked for that a while
back).

The serialized commits opened a 15 min window of inconsistency, as you
noticed. I am sorry for any breakage it created (after all, I don't like by
time wasted, either), but for once I think I had a good reason.
