What I meant is that (I think) you said you "used composer to install dependencies of the package in its own tree" instead of doing things "properly". That seems interesting to the tech-pkg community as it probably applies to more packages, and I wonder if the group would have opinions or insight into the situation. taca@ has already said the release tarball should be used.
