I don't really understand what problems you are trying to solve with
these changes, so I'll leave it to you to fix.

 

Sorry :-/ My goal was to implement "readline" option for this and some other packages with ability to be built with "readline" or "editline" libraries.

I'll try to fix python311 on Darwin. NB: suffix _failed result from build failure of _curses module. Right now it unclear for me,

how it relates to my commits.
