which python?

I was trying to build database/gramps2 and it failed with:

Doing a "make clean-depends" listed a bunch of py23 and py24 packages.

And when I go into x11/py-gnome2 to build it starts building python24.
I see pyversion.mk has:
PYTHON_VERSION_DEFAULT?=                23

and nothing related in my /etc/mk.conf

Any ideas?
