Do you have alsa headers installed at all with you core/base OS?
(Installed with slackware?)
If not, you may want to install them.
Also, alsa-lib is in pkgsrc. (I have used it a lot, but may be out of date
now.) If you use that, then adjust the xmms Makefile to also have:
.include "../../wip/alsa-lib/buildlink3.mk"
