Yes. I have in a mk.conf:

OBJHOSTNAME=    yes     # use work.`hostname` -- needed for PKGSRC_LOCKTYPE
PKGSRC_LOCKTYPE=        sleep

I don't know where the docs are. Maybe see

mk/internal/locking.mk
mk/defaults/mk.conf
