Just because lang/gcc44 is available, lang/gcc34 is neither obsolete
nor useless. It is still my default compiler for building packages,
and I haven't had any serious problems (related to compiler/linker)
building our 500+ packages in a long time. One year ago (and given my
knowledge about pkgsrc at that time), gcc34 was the better choice
compared to Sun Studio. This may have changed in the meantime, or at
least the difference may have become negligible.
