I'd strongly recommend using the Sun Studio compiler.

Alternatively, you could just use binary packages from here:

  http://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/SunOS/i386/5.10_2010Q1/

I built those a while ago but haven't found the round tuits to finish the
bootstrap kit, so for now you could use

  $ pkgadd -d http://www.netbsd.org/~sketch/TNFpkgsrc-x86.pkg all

and either tweak the pkgin config to use the 2010Q1 repository, or set
PKG_PATH to the above packages URL and just use e.g. 'pkg_add apache'
