Updating libraries affect old packages !

Hi folks.

Sometimes while updating some small X packages (xvidcapture, example) from -current it update the new library (lib) versions, example: libpng*, whenever, some programs such as, firefox, xpdf are dependents of the old library, and don't work later to the compilation process.

Firefox, xpdf and other, exit requesting the libpng12.so.0 , in some cases, I do a symlink to the new library appointing it to the required lib.

Exist a process, without updating big programs, such firefox, openoffice, xpdf and others in this case ?
