Patterns aren't so good for comparing versions. Wouldn't it be better
to generate a version range, and then use the pkgsrc-dewey logic to
check it?
E.g. on netbsd the version range would be something like
NetBSD>=${MAJOR}.0<${MAJOR}.99.9999, or maybe just
NetBSD>=${MAJOR}.0<${MAJOR}.99.
