State of the desktop for DragonFly heading into the release of pkgsrc-2012Q3
All of openbox, xfce4, kde4, and gnome build fine, the last three from
their meta-pkgs.
Due to the update to cairo 1.12.2, xfce4 in DragonFly seems to
experience near 100% cpu usage doing simple tasks such as opening
multiple Terminals and perhaps launching gvim.
At least for a x86_64 machine with Radeon HD 4550 graphics card, gnome
does not start in the sense launching it using gnome-session results
in only a black screen.
Firefox builds and appears to function normally.
For an HP OfficeJet 7310 connected to a home router via ethernet
cable, cups, hpijs, and the various foomatic packages are sufficient
for printing keeping in mind using /usr/pkg/lpr.
math/octave builds and appears to have basic functionality, and has an
up-to-date version, 3.6.3. Changing one configuration file to use
gmake enables adding octave-forge packages such as miscellaneous.
