Can you try this:

env LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/pkg/lib firefox &

If this makes it stable, you probably have the problem that the
program ends up with a conflict for libpixman, and possibly
pulling in two different copies of it, one from pkgsrc, one from
native X11, which is a not a recipe for success...
