This feature has existed at one point and has been intentionally removed.
A few users complained at this time, from what I found when I searched
at this time. Maybe there was even some bug remports.
Firefox developers explicitely said they didn't want to support this
any more (the argument being that the proxy is broken if it doesn't support
persistent conections).
