xset c on - keyclick doesnt work

Hi List,
of what I found via Google, this bug seems to appear on many Unices.

'%xset c on' is supposed to set a keyclick. The command xset itself
seems to work, you can turn the 'bell-beep' on and off. But no
keyclicks what I really would like to have.

Is it the same on your comps/NetBSD versions. Any ideas?
