I use ccache to save some recompiling time/heat, I currently have about 40G of files in the cache. On NetBSD 6, i386, I just did a "pkg_rolling-replace -uvk" to bring a system from mostly 2014Q4 to -current pkgsrc, to look for trouble before the freeze. This tried to rebuild 628 packages, with only failing. The cache stats were interesting; just over half of the compilations were obtained from the cache. I find that cache hits are much better when doing subsequent rebuilds after fixing something, but still saving more than 50% of compilation cpu time is helpful. cache hit (direct) 24152 cache hit (preprocessed) 10010 cache miss 29157
