I agree it seems redundant, but it looks liek the pciids one is newer: diff -u /usr/pkg/share//pciids/pci.ids /usr/pkg/share//pciutils/pci.ids --- /usr/pkg/share//pciids/pci.ids 2015-09-07 08:05:25.000000000 -0400 +++ /usr/pkg/share//pciutils/pci.ids 2016-02-15 19:52:18.000000000 -0500 @@ -1,8 +1,8 @@ # # List of PCI ID's # -# Version: 2015.09.07 -# Date: 2015-09-07 03:15:01 +# Version: 2014.11.08 +# Date: 2014-11-08 03:15:02 > A newer version of that file is provided by the sysutils/pciutils > package as share/pciutils/pci.ids (along with a utility to fetch the > newest version of the file without having to update the package!). I am not thrilled about a utility to update, since it presumably writes to files where the checksum was recorded. > Seems to me that we should just remove misc/pciids It does seem like we should figure out how to not have dups. And, it may be better to have them split vs merged since if what you need is the id file, pciutils is too much. One minor issue is that several things depend on pciids, but that's just about adjusting dependencies and paths. Overall I would be tempted to drop pciid file from pciutils and make it depend on pciids.
