I’m curious about this, as this bug suggests that they added rudimentary 5.2 support in the 0.9 branch:

And in fact, when you remove the explicit version check in util/dependencies.lua, Prosody 0.9.10 starts and runs with Lua 5.2. I have not checked any further...
