GCC install issue on CentOS 6.8

We're hitting a new error with GCC 4.9 install on CentOS 6.8:

This error occurs on all of our CentOS systems, including one with 
absolute minimum Yum packages installed.

I suspect it has something to do with recent Yum updates, because this 
package installed successfully a few months ago in the same pkgsrc snapshot.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as I'm stumped at the moment and have not 
been able to find any clues on the web.
