please test: rc.d-boot and qmail-run
Hi! I need your help -- particularly if you _don't_ run qmail or NetBSD,
but also if you do.
I've been working on making it easy, across platforms, to
1) Run package-provided rc.d scripts at boot time, regardless of the
platform's native init scheme
2) Run a fairly modern qmail (really) with sensible defaults
If you would, please update to -current pkgsrc and try installing
mail/qmail-run and pkgtools/rc.d-boot. Reply off-list with your
findings:
- Your OS, version, and architecture?
- Did packaging or installation break anywhere along the way? (Logs
appreciated)
- Did you have to learn anything to get qmail running? (Details
appreciated)
- Does it seem to work?
- Would you maybe actually consider using it? (I'd love to know why or
why not)
If pkgtools/rc.d-boot doesn't yet support your platform, please consider
sending me a brief summary of how to create a boot item. Patches are
most welcome, too, of course. And no obligation for any of the above,
just gratitude for any help you can offer.
Thanks,
- Amitai
P.S. rc.d-boot for SmartOS is known to be difficult: pkgsrc doesn't
install package rc.d scripts when INIT_SYSTEM="smf".
