Suggestion to replace szip dependencies with libaec
Good morning,
We currently have a few packages that depend on archivers/szip, which
does not allow redistribution in binary form:
biology/kallisto/Makefile:MAINTAINER=?????? bacon%NetBSD.org@localhost
devel/hdf/Makefile:MAINTAINER=?????? pkgsrc-users%NetBSD.org@localhost
graphics/dx/Makefile:MAINTAINER=?????? pkgsrc-users%NetBSD.org@localhost
I've done some investigation and found that libaec provides a drop-in
replacement for libszip.so with a BSD license.?? This will allow
generating more complete binary packages for things like kallisto and hdf.
The libaec documentation indicates that it is fully compatible with
szip.?? It is already being used by Debian packages as a dependency for
hdf5 and others.
I will be committing archivers/libaec shortly.
If there are no objections, I will replace the archivers/szip dependency
with archivers/libaec in the packages listed above.
Just wanted to offer a heads-up to anyone who might be affected by the
change.
?????? Jason
