Well, options is _the_ reason to use pkgsrc for users other than official
maintainers of binary packages. Otherwise binaries would have been just
fine for them as well. Having provided binaries as an option why don't we
want to let pkgsrc users enjoy their flexibility.

There are OSes with binary installation as primary culture - most Linux
distros for example. They have their own build systems which are hardly
visible to users at large. I don't think we wish pkgsrc to go that way.

Hard to imagine pkgsrc with "no options" as its primary philosophy.
