Have a look at regress/tools/files/awk-test.sh. 13 years ago I played
around a bit with Solaris 8 and Solaris 10, and it seems things haven't
changed since then.

Did you already try ./bootstrap --full? That might help. Or you need to
choose another AWK implementation. All this still sounds pretty familiar
to me. Good luck. :)
