I updated and uploaded the Debian package. https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=widelands It took me quite an amount of time because some of the files in the archive are using the windows line ending. I did not notice, and it broke my setting because the debian packaging involves comparing the content of a git checkout (where git converts CRLF to LF) with the content of the tar ball (where the CRLF remains untouched). https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=966280 I'm just saying it here to save time for the packagers of other distributions, in case it happens to them too.
