Is this sparc or x86? I use Solaris 11 on sparc and I find pkgsrc a bit
of pain for various reasons. The process that worked for me in the past:

1. Build your own latest GCC from source + any dependencies.

2. Tell pkgsrc to use your custom GCC. You can bootstrap with it and
then build some packages.

Many packages fail to build on Solaris, because of various reasons. Not
many people have time or energy to support this platform. Some software
is just crap and doesn't even work on sparc.
