I am not sure why, but gdm was moved to the pkgsrc-wip project. If you search for pkgsrc-wip on google, one of the links has a snapshot download. Grab that, unpack it, wip/gdm is for gnome3, wip/gdm2 is what you are likely used to, and seems to work just as well as it ever did.
Sorry about the inconvenience. We could discuss moving gdm2 back to the main branch. I asked about moving the package to pkgsrc-wip on this list a while ago. gdm2 was unmaintained and was conflicting with the newer gdm versions. Nobody was against at the time and there was no feedback until now.
Unfortunately GDM v3+ is not yet production-ready. It will exit after a user logout. Hence, it remained in WIP for the time being.
I've not had luck with the new gdm, and haven't tried running gnome3 since the gnome in meta-pkgs changed to 3. It had worked well when it was -new-, but a lot of things seems to have moved onwards gnome wise.
I wish I could get the new GDM to a stable state. Patches are highly encouraged :)
Best, Dan
