It's quite clear what is happening just from reading this message.
First of all, this isn't rust-bin, it's clearly compat80,
which is a dependency of rust-bin.
Every emulators/compat* package needs /lib to be writable since they
create symlinks in locations outside of the pkgsrc prefix. It
sounds like you have read-only null mounts. Usually compat* packages
necessary for bootstrapping should be installed in the chroot
before running a pbulk build.
