I am having a hard time following concerns and intent here.

The package has a MAINTAINER. It strikes me as quite unusual to propose
deleting a package that someone else maintains, rather than talking to
them.

You didn't mention if upstream is still maintaining it. Looking, it
seems not super recently, but a release in 2022 and commits about a year
ago -- which is nowhere near the most of 10 years that is our typical
"upstream vanished, nobody cares".

You said "broken for ages", but you left out since when.

As I understand it, the package builds on Linux and macOS. So saying
"it's been broken" seems off; we don't consider a package that builds on
NetBSD and Linux but not macOS to be irretrievably troubled.

(Since you first wrote, there are hints that there might be toolchain
issues on NetBSD, rather than problems in the package itself.)

Is this somehow more complicated than it seems?
