I don't believe so. A BeBox spec found at <http://www.bebox.nu/iodevs.php#scsi> suggests that the 53C810 is used, and mentions the 53C810a by way of comparison.
My BeBox has a chip labeled 53C810, and was purchased late in 1996, shortly before manufacture ceased.
