I don't see what's wrong with the current situation.
If you (a) do have a second hme and (b) insist on calling the internal one
hme0, you can always add an entry like we now have in GENERIC32.

For me neither applies, and probably for most other people at least one of
that points is moot.

So I suggest to comment out that line:

# If you have multiple hme ethernet devices and would like the
# internal one (in a U5/U10) to be called "hme0", uncomment
# the following line:
# hme0		at pci2	dev 1 function 1	# U5/U10 on-board
