For Solaris you have to completely trash the one that is there, then it
will let you write another one.  Using dd to write a few block from
/dev/zero will do the former, I don't know the solaris commands for the
latter.

I suspect the netbsd installer (booted from CDROM) will let you put the
netbsd bootstrap on.
